The performance of Mauritian athletes currently participating in the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games was highlighted on Monday 9 April 2018, by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Stephan Toussaint, during a press conference at the seat of the Ministry in Port Louis.
Minister Toussaint commended the outstanding performance of Mauritian athlete, Marie Hanitra Roilya Ranaivosoa, who won the Silver medal in weightlifting in the Women’s 48 kg category. This remarkable achievement has honoured the country both at national and international levels, he emphasised. The Minister also lauded the concerted efforts of all Mauritian athletes at the Games as they are demonstrating hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance in their respective sporting fields.
Furthermore, Mr Toussaint underscored that the Ministry has provided financial support to the tune of Rs 2 million to the Mauritius Olympic Committee for the purchase of specific equipment and uniforms as well as for medical insurance coverage.
Speaking about facilities at the 2018 Games, the Minister underlined that a wide range of easily accessible services have been put at the disposal of athletes. These will ensure that athletes perform in a technically excellent environment and at the same time benefit from medical facilities, he added. Other facilities include: dedicated bus and coach services to allow athletes and team officials to move promptly from the Commonwealth Games Village to all competition and training venues; and, effortless connection to destinations across the Gold Coast via the Gold Coast light rail system known as the G:link.
Moreover, the Minister spoke of the forthcoming 11th Games of the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) scheduled from 20 to 26 April 2018 in Djibouti. He encouraged young people to show determination and responsibility at the CJSOI Games.

Mauritius is being represented by a delegation of some 100 athletes and officials at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. Athletes are competing in Athletics, Boxing, Cycling, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Swimming, Para-Athletics, Squash, Triathlon, Table Tennis and Badminton.
The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games is being held from 04 to 15 April in Queensland, Australia. More than 6 600 athletes and team officials from 71 Commonwealth nations and territories are competing across the Gold Coast and event cities Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville, to share in the celebration of sport, entertainment and culture. It is the fifth time Australia has staged the Commonwealth Games following Sydney (1938), Perth (1962), Brisbane (1982) and Melbourne (2006).
