A total eclipse of the moon will be take place during the night of Friday 27th to Saturday 28th July. The public is invited by the Mauritius Astronomical Society to observe the eclipse at Collège du Saint Esprit, Quatre Bornes.
With a total phase lasting 1 hour 43 minutes, from 23h30 to 01h13, this eclipse will be the longest one of the 21st century. With clear skies, the entire lunar eclipse is safely enjoyable to the naked eye, from Mauritius, Rodrigues and Agaléga.
Astronomy Exhibition ’50 Ans, 50 Astres’
The evening begins at 18h00, with a formal opening of an astronomy exhibition ’50 Ans, 50 Astres’ in the Hall of the college, celebrating the 50 years of stargazing at the college since the founding of its Astronomy Club. Access to the function is on invitation only.
The public is invited to visit the exhibition as from 19h30, after the formal opening. Weather permitting, the public can join the Society for telescopic observations of the planets and of the eclipse on the college football grounds as from 22h24.
