Empowering Resilience: Anncy Rivière and the Mission of Nemamiah NGO

In today’s complex social landscape, young people are increasingly vulnerable to a range of emotional and psychological challenges, including bullying, social exclusion and moral harassment. These experiences can profoundly impact their self-esteem, mental health and overall well-being. Addressing these issues requires a compassionate, holistic approach that combines support, empowerment and community engagement.

Nemamiah NGO, founded by Anncy Rivière — a wellness therapist, trainermand life coach — emerges as a dedicated response to these pressing needs. Driven by personal experiences and professional expertise, Nemamiah aims to create safe spaces for expression and healing, fostering resilience among vulnerable youth and women. Through innovative programs and community initiatives, the organization seeks to transform pain into power, promote emotional well-being and cultivate a society where every individual feels valued, supported and empowered to thrive.

This approach underscores the importance of early intervention, education and community involvement in nurturing a generation capable of overcoming adversity and building a more inclusive, compassionate future.

Can you introduce yourself and share what motivated you to create Nemamiah NGO?

My name is Anncy Rivière and I am a wellness therapist, trainer and life coach specializing in emotional healing and personal empowerment. The inspiration behind founding Nemamiah came from a deeply personal conviction: I believe every young person has the right to feel safe, valued and supported.

My motivation was born out of my own experiences with bullying. During those challenging times, I realized how much I needed a space where vulnerability was welcomed, emotions were understood and resilience was nurtured. This led me to transform my project into an NGO Nemamiah — aimed at providing exactly that kind of safe haven. It is my way of turning pain into purpose and of fostering a community where healing and growth are always possible.

What personal or professional experiences inspired you to become involved in supporting vulnerable youth?

My journey has been shaped by both my professional background and personal reflections. I have spent many years working in training, human resources and social projects. Throughout this time, I encountered numerous young people carrying invisible wounds —  whether due to family pressure, emotional struggles, bullying or a lack of self-worth.

Professionally, I felt a calling to guide and support these youth. Personally, I recognized parts of my own story in theirs. Supporting vulnerable young people transitioned from being just a mission to a deep sense of responsibility. I wanted to be the adult I once needed — someone who listens, protects and empowers.

In Mauritius and Rodrigues, we are witnessing rising cases of bullying, violence and substance misuse, which place youth at risk regardless of gender or socioeconomic background.

This awareness inspired the creation of HOPE — Harmonizing Opportunities for Personal growth and Creative Expression. This initiative was born for children, youth and adults who wish to transform their pain into power. HOPE is more than a project; it is a movement aimed at reducing social exclusion through art and cultural innovation in the Republic of Mauritius.

HOPE is a promise: to turn pain into creativity, silence into expression and exclusion into a sense of belonging. Our vision is simple but bold — a society where art heals and empowers everyone.

Our mission is to reduce social exclusion through artistic innovation, with clear goals to build skills, strengthen confidence and foster resilience within communities affected by poverty, violence and disconnection.

How has your own experience as a victim of moral harassment influenced your commitment to this cause?

I prefer to say that I am not a victim but rather someone who has experienced moral harassment. I believe that often, the aggressors are themselves victims of their own suffering. That period in my life profoundly marked me. It shook my confidence and impacted my health but it also awakened a powerful realization: no one should ever have to feel alone, silenced or diminished.

That chapter did not break me; it redirected me. It gave me the strength to stand up for others and to create initiatives like the project HOPE and programs such as “Harmonie en SoiLa Douceur de la Soie, andCicatrice Transformée”. These are platforms for me to use my voice so that others can reclaim theirs.

Today, I see my pain as a catalyst — my fuel to advocate for awareness, education and protection. It has transformed into a driving force behind my commitment to supporting vulnerable individuals and fostering healing and empowerment.

Since the creation of Nemamiah, what are some of the first successes or impactful experiences you would like to share?

Since the creation of Nemamiah, our journey has been filled with meaningful victories and impactful experiences. We have accompanied more than 100 women, supported over 800 youth and helped women recover from deep burnout. These personal transformations are the true measure of our success — smiles, breakthroughs and heartfelt “I feel better now” moments from the people we serve in Mauritius, Rodrigues and Madagascar.

Throughout this journey, we have achieved several significant milestones:

In 2022, we were the 1st regional winner for the National Leadership Engine from NPCC.

In 2024, we obtained legal registration as an official association.

In 2025, we participated in the Project RESILIENCE with The Womb Creations.

Also in 2025, we delivered our first public talk on National Women’s Day, which culminated in an article by Mrs. Shirin Aumeerauddy-Cziffra in L’Express.

We received the Silver Award at the National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award (NPQEA) in November 2025 for our HOPE project.

We completed the legal registration process as a social enterprise.

Additionally, we actively participated in the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, supported by Hon. Shirin Aumeerauddy-Cziffra, from 25 November to 10 December 2025.

Each of these achievements affirms the impact of our work, but the most rewarding moments remain the smiles, breakthroughs, and gratitude from the individuals and communities we serve. These are the real successes that inspire us to move forward.

What are some of the biggest challenges faced by young victims of bullying and how does your organization help them overcome these obstacles?

Young people today face intense pressures, including body shaming, identity doubts, emotional instability and a fear of speaking out. These experiences can significantly affect their self-esteem and mental health. At Nemamiah, we respond with a holistic approach. Through programs like Harmonie en Soi, we provide tools to manage stress and emotional overwhelm. Our initiatives “La Douceur de la Soie” and “Cicatrice Transformée”are structured over four to six sessions to help rebuild self-love, confidence and foster a positive mindset. Our goal is to teach young individuals how to reconnect with their worth, express themselves authentically and break free from the cycle of emotional suffering.
