On Wednesday 17 December 2025, Airports of Mauritius Co. Ltd (AML) welcomed a delegation of Indian officers to visit the site of the new control tower at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (SSR Airport). The construction, which has been halted since July 2020 following the administration of the company responsible for the project, is set to resume soon thanks to the technical and financial support of the Indian government. This was stated in a press release issued by AML.

The visit provided an opportunity to assess the progress of the work and to plan the remaining steps to complete this strategic infrastructure. It also reflects the ongoing cooperation between Mauritius and India, strengthened during Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam’s visit to New Delhi in September, which resulted in support for several key projects.

According to AML CEO Lormus Bundhoo, this restart marks an important milestone for the future development of the airport and aviation safety. The new control tower is expected to become a modern, essential facility that will enhance the efficiency of airport operations.
