Ambassador Jardine Reflects on Three Years of US-Mauritius Relations

The United States Ambassador to Mauritius and Seychelles, Mr. Henry V. Jardine, expressed his gratitude to the Mauritian Government for their cooperation and support during his three-year tenure. He shared his remarks after a farewell meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration, and International Trade, Mr. Dhananjay Ramful, on Monday, January 5, 2026, in Port Louis.

Minister Ramful recalled the longstanding friendly relations between Mauritius and the United States, emphasizing that bilateral ties have grown stronger in recent years, especially concerning the Chagos Archipelago following the signing of the treaty on governance over the territory. He also highlighted the ongoing cooperation in maritime security.

Additionally, Minister Ramful announced that Mauritius will host the 18th US–Africa Business Summit at the end of July this year. The summit, expected to gather around 3,000 business leaders from Africa and the US, is considered a strategic and significant event for Mauritius.

Discussions between the two officials also covered the support Mauritius has provided to the US, reflecting the close partnership between the nations.

Ambassador Jardine reflected on his three years in office, describing his experience as rewarding and an honor to represent the US in Mauritius and Seychelles. He highlighted key achievements, including the construction of the new US Embassy in Mauritius and progress in security, governance, and institutional cooperation.

He also mentioned the US’s engagement in economic initiatives, recalling the successful business summit in 2024 and expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming US–Africa Business Summit in July 2026. Jardine expressed optimism that Mauritius–US relations will continue to grow stronger in the coming year.
