
The British High Commissioner to Mauritius, Mr. Paul Brummell, paid a courtesy call on Monday 18 August 2025, on the Minister of Land Transport, Mr. Mahomed Osman Cassam Mahomed, at the seat of his Ministry in Port Louis.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr. Brummell emphasized that this was his first official encounter with Minister Mahomed and described the discussions as warm and productive. The exchanges primarily focused on the Light Rail System (LRS) in Mauritius, which he praised as a valuable service that enhances mobility across the country.
He recalled the ongoing collaboration between Mauritius and the United Kingdom through Crossrail, a UK-based rail infrastructure company, which is providing technical advice to the Ministry of Land Transport and the Government of Mauritius on managing the LRS.
The British High Commissioner also highlighted the Minister’s keen interest in the UK’s public transport model, particularly the Oyster Card system. He expressed appreciation for this interest and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening cooperation in the transport sector.
Mr. Brummell reaffirmed his determination to pursue fruitful collaboration with the Government of Mauritius, aiming to build on the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
