
In observance of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV), organized by the Mauritius National Assembly and UNDP, Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam launched a multimedia interactive exhibition on Wednesday 26 November 2025, at Sir Harilall Vaghjee Memorial Hall in Port Louis. A pledge was also signed by the Prime Minister and other dignitaries.
Present at the event were Deputy Prime Minister Mr. Paul Raymond Bérenger, National Assembly Speaker Mrs. Shirin Aumeeruddy-Cziffra, Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare Mrs. Marie Arianne Navarre-Marie, UNDP Resident Representative Mrs. Alka Bhatia, and other officials.
In his speech, Prime Minister Ramgoolam emphasized the need to eliminate GBV and praised Mauritius as the first country to establish a dedicated Ministry to address gender discrimination and support victims. He urged all citizens to contribute to the fight against violence toward women.
DPM Bérenger highlighted the global rise in violence against women and stressed the importance of educating children to combat this issue. Mrs. Aumeeruddy-Cziffra announced upcoming awareness events to address GBV and share best practices internationally.
Minister Navarre-Marie commended the efforts of the Parliamentary Gender Caucus and outlined measures taken by her Ministry since the start of the year. UNDP’s Bhatia reaffirmed their support for ending violence and promoting safer digital environments.
The exhibition, open to the public, runs from 26 November to 10 December, with hours from 10:00 to 15:00 daily.
