On Thursday 27 March 2025, the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, reiterated Government’s commitment to address the concerns of the fishermen community and enhance their livelihoods. He was speaking following a site visit at the Fish Landing Station at Trou aux Biches.

Prime Minister Ramgoolam was accompanied by the Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Dr Arvin Boolell; the Minister of Local Government, Mr Ranjiv Woochit; and the Junior Minister of the Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Mr Gilles Fabrice David, to take stock of the difficulties faced by the fishermen.

Dr Ramgoolam took note of the challenges faced by the fishermen community against the effects of climate change, including coastal erosion. The community of fisherman shared their suggestions to the Prime Minister regarding the lack of equipment such as Fish Aggregating Devices to boost their catch and the pulling of boats to shore during cyclones.

The Prime Minister reassured the fishermen that Government will provide its full support to promote their welfare and that of their families.

Following his visit at the Fish Landing Station, Dr Ramgoolam also attended a prayer at the Camp La Cloche Church in Pointe aux Piments.
