High Commissioner Brummell Congratulates Prime Minister on Chagos Agreement

The newly appointed British High Commissioner, Mr. Paul Brummell CMG, paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam at the New Treasury Building in Port-Louis on Thursday 24 July 2025. 

During their discussions, the High Commissioner highlighted the significance of the recent Chagos Archipelago Agreement signed between the United Kingdom and the Republic of Mauritius, emphasizing the potential for further cooperation.

In a statement, Mr. Brummell described the meeting as fruitful and congratulated the Prime Minister on his pivotal role in the historic agreement. The conversation primarily centered on matters related to the Treaty and Strategic Partnership Framework, as well as exploring avenues for collaboration across a broad spectrum of sectors.

Additionally, the High Commissioner outlined his priorities for supporting Mauritius, including initiatives in climate finance, efforts to combat illicit financial activities and strengthening institutional capacity.
