On Wednesday 16 July 2025, the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr. Govindranath Gunness, officially opened a new 270-metre-long, 3.5-metre-wide access road from Coriolis to Residence Antoinette in Midlands. The project aims to enhance traffic flow and pedestrian safety in the area.
Present at the ceremony were the General Manager of the Road Development Authority, Mr. Nazeer Mowlabaccus, along with other officials.
In his remarks, Minister Gunness recalled that the initiative responded to longstanding requests from local residents who faced difficulties due to the narrow existing route. Construction, which began in February 2025, was completed on schedule and within budget.
He expressed gratitude to all stakeholders involved and highlighted that the new one-way road, equipped with lighting and handrails, would significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve safety for both motorists and pedestrians.
The Minister also urged road users to drive responsibly and emphasized the importance of adhering to traffic laws.
