Indian Naval Ship Tarkash, currently on deployment in the Southern Indian Ocean Region, arrived on a port call at Port Louis today. The deployment of INS Tarkash to Mauritius is amidst the celebration of the 183rd Anniversary of Apravasi Divas which truly symbolizes the above cultural and civilizational bonds between India and Mauritius, on 2nd November 2017.
INS Tarkash during its visit to Mauritius would be undertaking joint patrolling and surveillance with the National Coast Guard of the Republic of Mauritius with an aim to prevent illegal fishing activities and help reinforce maritime security in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Mauritius. Further, the ship will also aid the local authorities in providing assistance in terms of logistics and medical support to the outer islands. INS Tarkash will assist the National Coast Guard in the conduct of maritime training workshops is aspects like damage control and firefighting by experts from the Indian Navy.
