A consultative meeting with secondary school stakeholders was held on Thursday, 5 February 2026, at the Paul Octave Wiehe Auditorium in Réduit. Organized by the Ministry of Education and Human Resource, it gathered student representatives, including prefects, student council members, head girls and head boys from across Mauritius.

Minister of Education, Dr. Mahend Gungapersad, along with ministry officials, emphasized that this exercise is part of a democratic process to give students a voice in education reform. He assured that the proposed blueprint is still in development and will not affect current students adversely, as it is based on data and consultations.

Minister Gungapersad highlighted the importance of student well-being, freedom of expression, and diversity of views. He encouraged students to serve as ambassadors of positive values and stressed that the education system should support all learners, regardless of background or academic achievement.

The process will continue, especially with student input, to refine proposals on secondary admission, grading and gender balance, aiming for a more inclusive and future-ready education system. The meeting provided a platform for students to share their views and help shape future policies transparently.
