COVID-19: Lockdown period extended to 30 April 2021, announces Attorney-General

Mauritius will be in lockdown up to 30 April 2021, despite the reopening of additional economic activities as from tomorrow 01 April 2021, announced, this evening, the Attorney General, Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Maneesh Gobin, on the national television, from the New Treasury Building in Port-Louis.

The Attorney General highlighted that only some specific economic activities will be allowed to operate under strict sanitary conditions. As for the Temporary Restriction of Movement Order, it has been extended to 30 April 2021.

Two important measures under the Order comprise the prohibition of gathering of people and constant wearing of facemask outside the place of residence.

Places still closed to the public include: cinemas, leisure parks, amusement centres, gaming houses, casinos, sports complexes, social halls, youth centres, CAB offices, wedding halls, market fairs, beaches, national parks, and nature reserves.

Supermarkets will continue to operate on the basis of the existing alphabetical order from Monday to Saturday.

Work Access Permits (WAPs) already delivered are still valid and those from the Private Sector already in possession of WAPs are allowed to operate.

With regards the Red Zone, the Attorney General pointed out that movement of persons will still be restricted. Moving in and out of the Red Zone to be allowed only for frontliners on duty such as medical staff and Police Officers. In order to enter of leave a Red Zone, a special permit will be required, and the mode of application stays the same as for the WAP.

Officers of the Civil Service will operate on a roster basis.

With regards public transport, he recalled that specific regulations have been made so as to respect strict sanitary measures.

As for the Judiciary, it will be up to the Chief Justice to decide which minimum services will be offered.
