Vouchers worth Rs 1,000 were handed over, on Friday 7 March 2025, at the J.T. Ramsoondur Government School in Solferino, to 10 pupils of Grades 5 and 6 who participated in a first quiz competition, organised in the context of an Energy Saving Campaign initiated by the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities, the Central Electricity Board (CEB) and the Energy Efficiency Management Office (EEMO).
As part of the Campaign, the EEMO will carry out talks, up to the month of May 2025, in public and private primary schools across the four educational zones, focusing exclusively on Grade 5 and Grade 6 primary school students.
To encourage a more engaging awareness session, a short traditional quiz will be held after each talk. Winners of the quiz competition in each school will be selected through a lucky draw and each winner will receive a voucher worth Rs 1,000. The quiz competition will be eventually extended to 31 other schools. This project, which is being conducted on a pilot basis and subject to a successful outcome, will be extended nationwide for the Academic year 2026 to target a broader audience.
It is to be recalled that on 05 February 2025, a record 567.9 MW peak electricity demand was recorded at 21:00 hours. To mitigate the possibility of recurrence of such a situation, an Energy Saving Campaign was launched to sensitise the general public on energy conservation measures in order to help reduce electricity consumption.
