High Commissioner Brummell Meets with Mauritius Foreign Minister

The newly appointed British High Commissioner to Mauritius, Mr. Paul Brummell, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr. Dhananjay Ramful, in Port Louis on Monday 21 July 2025. The discussion centered on the shared vision for further collaboration between the Republic of Mauritius and the United Kingdom.

 During the meeting, Minister Ramful expressed his pleasure at welcoming the High Commissioner and highlighted that key topics included the Chagos Archipelago. He noted that the Agreement concerning the Chagos Archipelago, including Diego Garcia, was submitted to the UK Parliament in May 2025. The Minister also recalled the establishment of the Strategic Partnership Framework between Mauritius and the UK, which aims to foster stronger cooperation. This agreement focuses on enhancing mutual economic growth and trade, reinforcing the international rules-based system, strengthening maritime security and addressing climate change. Additionally, Mr. Ramful mentioned that the meeting provided an opportunity to discuss other areas of mutual interest, such as education.
