Mauritius’ Law Practitioners Complaints Commission (LPCC) held its first meeting on 2 October 2026, chaired by former Supreme Court Judge Joseph Gérard Angoh.

Attorney General Gavin Glover SC briefly joined the meeting to thank the chairperson and members for serving. He stressed that the Commission would carry out its duties independently, without direction from any person or authority.

Established under the Law Practitioners (Disciplinary Proceedings) Act 2025, the LPCC is responsible for receiving, conciliating and investigating complaints of professional misconduct against barristers, attorneys and notaries. Where it finds a prima facie case, it may initiate disciplinary proceedings before the Supreme Court. The Commission takes over complaint-handling responsibilities previously held by the Attorney General, the Bar Council, the Law Society and the Chamber of Notaries.

The Commission’s vice-chairpersons are Benjamin Marie Joseph and Kritananda Naghee Reddy. Its members are Yusuf Hassam Aboo Baker SC, Subhas Chandra Lallah SC, Babakur Rampoortab SA, Ayesha Jeewa SA, Navin Rama, Bibi Swaleka Jagan, Koonavathi Goorriah, Varuna Roy Bunwaree and Daniel Philippe Patrice Avrillon. Asha Pillay Nababsing is the secretary.

Members of the public may submit a written complaint detailing the alleged misconduct within six months of the incident, or of becoming aware of it.

Complaints should be addressed to the Law Practitioners Complaints Commission, c/o the Attorney General’s Office, 4th Floor, Renganaden Seeneevassen Building, Port Louis.
