On Wednesday 16 September 2026, Mr. Sjamsu Rahardja, the World Bank Group Resident Representative for Mauritius, paid a courtesy visit to Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, Mr. Lutchmanah Pentiah, at his Port Louis office. The meeting served as a platform to discuss the government’s vision for public service reform and explore potential support from the World Bank.
Minister Pentiah emphasized that bureaucracy should not hinder economic growth, highlighting ongoing efforts to make the public service more transparent, efficient, and accountable. He outlined five key reform areas: establishing a training and capacity-building center; reviewing performance management systems; developing a strategic reform framework; accelerating digitalisation across 23 ministries; and progressing with the Public Sector Reform Bill through stakeholder consultations.
He also mentioned the interest in adopting India’s online grievance redressal system, citing the success of its centralized complaints mechanism, and proposed establishing an “Efficient Public Service Implementation Desk” to improve citizen feedback and service delivery.
Mr. Rahardja acknowledged the importance of these reform initiatives and expressed the World Bank’s willingness to support their timely and effective implementation. He highlighted that such reforms could significantly enhance productivity and foster economic growth in Mauritius. The Bank intends to continue engaging with the government and exploring avenues for technical and policy support to ensure the success of these ambitious public sector reforms.
