A Flourishing Diplomatic Agenda

Modi’s official schedule started on Tuesday 11 March 2025, with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Samadhis of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam and Sir Anerood Jugnauth, located within the picturesque Pamplemousses Botanical Garden. This gesture of respect was only the beginning of a packed agenda that showcased India’s commitment to enhancing its relationship with Mauritius.

Following the ceremony, Narendra Modi joined President of the Republic, Prithvirajsing Roopun, for an official luncheon at the State House before attending a vibrant community reception at the Trianon Convention Centre. The evening concluded with a crucial meeting with Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam at the Treasury Building, followed by a state banquet at Le Méridien hotel, celebrating the enduring friendship between the nations.

On the same day, the Prime Minister met with opposition leader Joe Lesjongard and former Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, further emphasizing the inclusivity of his diplomatic outreach. A significant delegation meeting at the Sir Harilal Vaghjee Hall of the National Assembly led to the signing of multiple memoranda of understanding and the E-inauguration of several development projects financed by India.

On Wednesday morning, Modi inaugurated the newly established Civil Service College in Réduit and partook in the national holiday celebrations at Champ-de-Mars, where he was conferred with Mauritius’s highest honor, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean (GCSK).

In a culturally rich moment, Modi participated in a prayer ritual at the sacred Ganga Talao lake, pouring holy water he had collected during the Sangam Maha Kumbh Mela in India, symbolizing the spiritual bond between the two nations.

Before departing in the afternoon, a farewell ceremony was held at the State Lounge of SSR Airport, marking the end of a momentous visit.
