The number of fatal road accidents continues to rise sharply, raising urgent concerns about road safety. Since the beginning of the year, 110 people have died in traffic-related incidents, compared to 86 during the same period in 2025. This represents an increase of 24 deaths, or nearly 28 percent, highlighting the worsening situation.
According to recent data, 107 fatal accidents have occurred since January, up from 81 last year. The rise in fatalities underscores the importance of effective measures such as the points-based driving license system, aimed at holding motorists accountable and reducing risky behaviors.
Pedestrians and motorcyclists are among the main victims of this trend. Since the start of the year, 35 pedestrians have lost their lives, compared to 24 in 2025—a rise of 11 fatalities. For motorcyclists, the death toll has increased from 37 to 43, with six additional lives lost.
Passenger fatalities have also surged, with 13 deaths reported this year, compared to five in 2025. The number of driver deaths remains relatively stable, at 15 this year versus 14 last year. Conversely, some categories have seen slight declines, including cyclists and group passengers.
Alarmingly, a bus driver is among the victims this year, marking a new development as no such fatalities were recorded in this category last year. With 110 lives lost on the roads so far this year, the situation remains deeply concerning and calls for urgent action to improve road safety.
