Former NSS Head Lockdev Hoolash Passes Away

The Mauritius Police Force and the country have lost a prominent figure. Lockdev Hoolash, former Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and ex-director of the National Security Service (NSS), passed away on Wednesday 2 July2025, at the age of 69, at his home in Le Hochet, Terre-Rouge.

A man of service and discipline, Lockdev Hoolash was appointed head of the NSS shortly after the electoral victory of the Alliance Lepep in December 2014, succeeding DCP Dev Jokhoo. His leadership of the country’s main intelligence agency marked a turning point in the nation’s security approach.

With a long career spanning several decades in the police force, he earned respect and recognition among his peers. His discretion and loyalty to the institution made him a key figure in the police community. The funeral of Lockdev Hoolash took place on Thursday 3 July 2025.
