Mrs. Ahmed Takes Oath as NHRC Deputy

Mrs. Najah Abdulla Ahmed was officially sworn in as the Deputy Chairperson of the National Preventive Mechanism Division of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The ceremony took place on Wednesday 2 July 2025, at the State House in Réduit, where she took her oath before the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr. Dharam Gokhool. 

The event was attended by the Chairperson of the NHRC, Mr. Satyajit Boolell, among other distinguished guests.

Mrs. Ahmed is a qualified barrister with dual admission to the Bars of Mauritius and England and Wales. She possesses a strong academic background in law and business management, complemented by extensive experience in litigation, human rights advocacy, and legal training.

The current composition of the NHRC is as follows:

Chairperson: Mr. Satyajit Boolell

Deputy Chairperson – Human Rights Division: Ms. Melany Nagen

Member – Human Rights Division: Mrs. Touria Prayag

Member – Human Rights Division: Mr. Jean Marie Frank Richard

Deputy Chairperson – National Preventive Mechanism Division: Mrs. Najah Abdulla Ahmed

Member – National Preventive Mechanism Division: Mr. Vijay Ramanjooloo

Member – National Preventive Mechanism Division: Mr. Joseph Gabriel Michel Vieillesse

This appointment reinforces the NHRC’s commitment to safeguarding human rights and enhancing preventive mechanisms across the country.
