Investigation into Human Trafficking

A serious case involving allegations of human trafficking, sexual exploitation and revenge pornography has been brought to attention against Al Madani Hossenally, a 43-year-old notary clerk residing in Pailles. Multiple charges are under investigation, with the potential for the number of accusations to increase as efforts continue.

Initially, around seven charges were identified by the authorities; however, it has been indicated that approximately fifteen or more serious offenses may be attributed to the suspect. The investigation is being led by an investigative team under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent Rajesh Moorghen.

Victims, including one referred to as Maryam, have played a significant role in advancing the case. Maryam, who was married at 15 years old to Al Madani Hossenally, has spoken publicly about her experiences of abuse and coercion over a period of fifteen years. Her account describes various forms of violence, sexual exploitation and non-consensual exposure on camera, which have been documented and are part of the investigation.

It has been reported that efforts to report the abuse began five years prior, during a request for divorce, when videos of Maryam were leaked and she was subjected to blackmail. The challenges faced by victims in seeking justice were compounded by social and familial pressures; for instance, her father’s directives discouraged her from returning home and her in-laws were alleged to have been involved in the abuse and exploitation.

Support from family members was limited and the experiences of the victim have been characterized by a lack of assistance from relatives. Despite this, resilience was demonstrated, leading to the decision to leave her abuser at age 30 and to seek refuge with her mother and sister. Divorce proceedings were initiated amid threats and humiliation.

Over time, efforts have been made to rebuild her life. Language skills were acquired through online resources and financial independence has been established, although financial difficulties remain due to ongoing expenses such as rent and children’s education. The children’s refusal to reside with their father led to their being reclaimed by their mother, which was followed by acts of retaliation from Hossenally. On 6 April 6 2025, an anonymous letter was received by her brother, informing him of the circulation of a pornographic video involving Maryam on Telegram, allegedly shared by her ex-husband.

Following this, a report was filed at the Plaine Verte police station. An investigation was initiated by ASP Moorghen and his team, resulting in the identification of additional victims who also filed complaints against the suspect. Since his arrest, the suspect has exercised the right to remain silent during interrogation and has been held in pre-trial detention. The police have opposed his release on bail, leaving the matter to be decided by the judiciary.

The investigation continues to focus on establishing the full scope of the allegations, with the protection of victims being prioritized throughout the process.
