The inaugural edition of the ‘Salon des PME’ 2025 officially opened on Saturday24 May 2025, at the Centre-de-Flacq Taxi Stand, bringing together approximately 100 Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The event showcased a diverse array of locally produced goods, including textiles, footwear, jewelry, food items, furniture, and plants. The Minister of Industrial Development, SMEs and Cooperatives, Mr. Aadil Ameer Meea, attended the launch ceremony.
Organized jointly by the Ministry of Industry, SMEs and Cooperatives and SME Mauritius Ltd, this three-day exhibition (23 to 25 May) aimed to enhance the visibility of local SMEs, promote Mauritian craftsmanship and provide a platform for entrepreneurs to network, display their products and connect with new customers.
In his remarks, Minister Ameer Meea described the event as a celebration of the creativity, talent, and resilience of local entrepreneurs. He emphasized the vital role of SMEs in the country’s economy, highlighting their contributions to job creation, innovation, and social development. He also noted that the exhibition offers SMEs an opportunity to further develop their businesses while giving Mauritian consumers access to a wider selection of locally made products.
SME Mauritius Ltd organizes three ‘Salons’ annually to promote locally produced goods at affordable prices. The event features free stands for start-ups, allowing them to engage directly with the public and build brand recognition.
Addressing the challenges faced by entrepreneurs — such as access to finance, administrative hurdles and market access — Minister Ameer Meea stated that the Ministry is implementing specific measures to tackle these issues. He also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment under its Programme 2025-2029 to reduce import dependence and emphasize locally made products. The Minister reiterated the government’s dedication to supporting SMEs and positioning the sector as a cornerstone of sustainable national development.
