Lavwa Lavenir is presented as a platform for reflection with the ultimate goal of political engagement by 2029. Officially launched on Wednesday 16 September 2026, the movement aims to foster dialogue with the public around a manifesto outlining a new vision for Mauritius. The initial proposals focus on institutions, the economy, education, youth, health, and the environment.

During the launch, Nita Deerpalsing explained that Lavwa Lavenir is primarily a think tank intended to evolve into a political movement. A manifesto titled “Reconquering Our Future Through Determination and Action Today” has been proposed, emphasizing eight key areas. Central principles include justice, belonging, solidarity, and excellence, with the overarching aim of building a nation where citizens, communities, and nature can flourish together.

Institutionally, proposals include limiting the Prime Minister to two terms and MPs to three, establishing a more streamlined executive with a maximum of fifteen ministries, and reviewing discretionary powers. Transparency, accountability, and independence of institutions are emphasized, with a strong focus on fighting corruption through measures such as protecting anti-corruption agencies and increasing transparency in public procurement.

Economic strategies involve reindustrializing Mauritius, diversifying growth drivers, and promoting sectors like manufacturing, technology, renewable energy, and modern agriculture. The movement also advocates enhancing the port’s role as a regional logistics hub and redirecting foreign investments toward productive activities.

Education, health, and youth are also prioritized, with proposals for more practical skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving in schools. A “Guarantee of Opportunity” is envisioned for youth, providing pathways to training, employment, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement, including a national civic service program.

Nita Deerpalsing emphasized that Lavwa Lavenir aims to serve as a force for positive change, grounded in philosophy and a think tank, with the ultimate goal of meaningful political contribution.
