Mauritius and EU forge stronger partnership in gender equality and family welfare

In a bid to enhance cooperation, the Chargé d’Affaires of the European Union (EU) to the Republic of Mauritius and Seychelles, Mr Marios Vitos, paid a courtesy call on Thursday 3 April 2025, on the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Marie Arianne Navarre-Marie, at the seat of her Ministry in Port Louis. 

He was accompanied by the Project Manager of the delegation, Mr Madev Balloo, and the Gender Expert from GOPA Consulting firm, Mrs Winfred Lichuma.

In a statement after the meeting Minister Navarre-Marie expressed satisfaction at the continued support from the EU, noting the valuable technical and financial assistance provided to both the Government and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare. 

She highlighted that several projects are in the pipeline, with discussions underway, adding that a plan of action is being developed. The Minister also pointed out that the Ministry is in the process of reviewing past and upcoming projects and expressed hope that the EU will continue to support these initiatives to move forward.

Mr Vitos, for his part, stated that the meeting provided an opportunity to establish initial contact and discuss key areas of collaboration. He recalled the long-standing relationship with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, with which numerous initiatives have already been undertaken. According to him, the meeting reaffirmed this partnership and explored future avenues for cooperation.
