Leadership development expert and bestselling author Mr Shiv Khera met Prime Minister Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam during a courtesy call at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis on Wednesday, 14 October 2026.

In a statement, Mr Khera stressed that character, integrity and responsible leadership are essential to national development. “Companies and countries are not built on skills, they are built on character”, he said, adding that the Prime Minister shared his view on the importance of character-building.

Citing Singapore’s development, Mr Khera said the country’s transformation demonstrated the value of integrity, responsible leadership and commitment to national prosperity.

Drawing on his corporate training experience, he highlighted the importance of instilling values from an early age and spoke about his programme, PrepareThem, Don’t Repair Them, which promotes character development and essential life skills.

He identified people skills, persuasion skills and prioritisation skills as three key competencies for success in a rapidly changing world. While recognising the growing importance of technology and technical expertise, he said relationship-building, effective communication and the ability to distinguish between urgent and important matters remain fundamental.

Addressing young people, Mr Khera emphasised integrity, communication, teamwork and a positive attitude, noting that employers increasingly value these qualities alongside technical skills. He also encouraged them to exceed the minimum requirements of their roles and responsibilities, contributing more to their families, workplaces, organisations and country.

He said that strong character and a commitment to excellence can help individuals distinguish themselves professionally while contributing meaningfully to society and national development.
